For Spring Quarter: New Library Instruction Request Form

Dear UCLA Teaching Community:

UCLA Library is pleased to share a new Library Instruction Request Form for instructors interested in UCLA Library support for their classes. As you prepare for spring quarter, you can request a library instruction session using our new service portal. Please be aware that you will be asked to create an account, but this is the same account that you may use for other library services including CLICC device lending. To ask us a question or submit a request without an account, email requestinstruction@library.ucla.edu.

In addition to this new request form, I invite you to take advantage of the following resources and services that are available for the spring quarter.

Research Services

The UCLA Library can support your research needs wherever you are.

Bookmark our research help services on the UCLA Library website.

Access to Collections

The Library offers collections that support research and instruction:

  • Faculty may submit requests for course e-reserves through PEER – Pilot Emergency E-Reserves program – for use in the Course Management System (we are not able to offer physical/print reserves for the 2020-21 academic calendar year due to county-mandated restrictions). Please keep in mind that faculty are responsible for ensuring that their requested copying and use of materials satisfies fair use, see UCOP Fair Use Guidance. Library Special Collections materials are not available through PEER at this time;
  • Subject librarians are available to consult with faculty to help identify possible alternative material such as eBooks for course reserves;
  • Request a purchase of electronic materials, such as eBooks;
  • For UCLA faculty and graduate students, PETDOR provides digital copies of print materials in UCLA libraries, and PETDOR + Mail loans and mails UCLA Library circulating materials.
    • Undergraduate courses identified by faculty with a library research component will be eligible for PETDOR services. Capstone and UCLA Honors program students will be eligible to directly register for the service. Please note: Library Special Collections and the full text of HathiTrust items are excluded from this service.
  • UCLA Faculty staff and students can make use of the Library’s Page-and-Pickup service to access materials not available in HathiTrust.

Your students may also benefit from being aware that study space is available in the Charles E. Young Research Library, and seats can be reserved online.

For technology-related support, including equipment lending and access to specialized software from CLICC Virtual Desktop, please visit the Library CLICC page.

Please consider adding some of the above statements or links to your syllabi to help students navigate the wide array of library resources and services available to them during spring quarter.

Thank you for your support as we continue to navigate this challenging time together. If you have additional comments or questions as you prepare for instruction this quarter, please contact requestinstruction@library.ucla.edu.

Best regards,
