For those who treasure Middle Eastern art, history and scholarship, we have reason to celebrate. The UCLA Library holds one of the largest and most comprehensive collections of Middle Eastern and Islamic manuscripts in the world, totaling at least 8,000 manuscripts in Arabic, Persian, and Ottoman Turkish. The books encompass an enormous breadth: rare and beautiful illuminated manuscripts, poetry and literature, significant medical and scientific tracts, and works of historical importance. Recently, the Library embarked on a multi- year project to expand and improve these collections so they can be discovered online and at the Library, and to add important works to stay ahead of evolving scholarship.
