Expert Library Help For Remote Research & Learning

October 12, 2020

Dear UCLA Students and Researchers:

I’m delighted to welcome you to the start of fall quarter instruction and remote activities. Although our library buildings are physically closed due to Los Angeles County Department of Public Health guidelines, library staff continue to work both remotely and on campus to help bring you the resources you need to advance your research, education, and training.

I invite you to take advantage of the following services that are available for the fall quarter, but before you get started, you will need to make sure you have taken the necessary steps to access UCLA Library’s subscription content from off-campus.

The Library Can Digitize or Mail Print Materials

PETDOR is a service that provides digital copies of print materials in UCLA libraries, and PETDOR + Mail loans and mails UCLA Library circulating materials. Beginning fall quarter, undergraduate courses identified by faculty with a library research component will be eligible for PETDOR services. Capstone and UCLA Honors program students will be eligible to directly register for the service. Please note: Library Special Collections materials and the full text of books that are available online via HathiTrust are excluded from this service.

Get Technology Support and Check Out Equipment

The UCLA Library and Campus Library Instructional Computing Commons (CLICC) provide technology support and equipment loans to UCLA students in support of learning and research activities.

By creating an account on the CLICC Reservations Portal, currently enrolled students can request to reserve equipment for use during the academic term to support them while pursuing UCLA academic activities. Most loan periods will span the quarter.

Equipment available, while supplies last, include:

•    Laptops (Dell, HP, Macbook) or Chromebooks
•    Camcorder cameras
•    Portable projectors
•    Mifi hotspots (AT&T, Sprint, TMobile, Verizon)

Those unable to come to the Library may make other arrangements such as sending a proxy to pick up the equipment or making arrangements for shipping to U.S. addresses.

To learn more about the Library’s virtual services, please visit our COVID-19 Response Library Information and Resources web page. If you have any questions, I encourage you to please email the Library at AskUs@library.ucla.edu.

Wishing you an excellent start to the new academic year, and above all, good health. Please take care.

Best regards,
