Our Mission

The UCLA Library creates a vibrant nexus of ideas, collections, expertise and spaces in which users illuminate solutions for local and global challenges. We constantly evolve to advance UCLA’s research, education and public service mission by empowering and inspiring communities of scholars and learners to discover, access, create, share and preserve knowledge.

Strategic Directions

Organizational Values

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

We seek to learn about, identify and address current and historical inequities across our communities of practice, collections, programs and policies to construct a collaborative culture that models reparative justice, diversity and inclusion, and broadens access to and preservation of knowledge.

Inspired Excellence

We attract, develop and partner with people and organizations that drive transformation and progress within the Library, across campus and among academic and research libraries.

Accountability

We consistently deliver on our commitments in order to build trust among our staff, users and partners. We use data-informed decision-making to develop and adapt our services, content and technologies to support teaching and research, enabling our communities of scholars and learners to innovate and create.

Community-Centered Solutions

We listen to our UCLA communities and respond with compassion in order to gain understanding, build trust and evolve human-centered solutions that advance UCLA’s research, education and public service mission.

Sustainability

We consider the impact of our decisions and actions on future generations of Californians and prioritize approaches that are fiscally and ethically responsible.
