Salvation! Have You Said Your Prayers Today?

U.S, 1987

In her first solo feature, Beth B takes on evangelical hypocrisy and the vicissitudes of the American Dream. After he’s laid off, a blue collar roughneck (Viggo Mortensen) hatches a plan to blackmail the televangelist (Stephen McHattie) that his starry-eyed wife (Exene Cervenka) sends all their cash to. Drenched in neon and Day-Glo with a soundtrack featuring Cabaret Voltaire, Arthur Baker and New Order, it doubles as a brilliantly curated time capsule of the 1980s.

DCP, color, 80 min. Director: Beth B. Screenwriters: Beth B, Tom Robinson. With: Steven McHattie, Viggo Mortensen, Exene Cervenka.
