Presented by the UCLA Library Punk Collective at Brain Dead Studios

Released in 1986, Lovedolls Superstar is the sequel to David Markey’s punk cult classic Desperate Teenage Lovedolls. Shot on Super 8 with a budget of a few thousand dollars (and a soundtrack featuring Redd Kross, the Dead Kennedys, and Sonic Youth) Lovedolls Superstar follows the titular girl-band-turned-Mansonoid-cult as they fight tooth and nail to make a comeback, while a zany cast of characters seek to enact revenge upon them. “You can’t kill a Lovedoll, babe… because Superstars never die!”

This screening is presented by the UCLA Library Punk Collective, celebrating multiple generations of punk. The film will be preceded by short films and music videos from Teenage Lovedolls director David Markey(opens in a new tab) and an exhibit of materials from the UCLA Library Punk Archive, with performances by Los Angeles bands Seudo Youth(opens in a new tab) and En La Muerte(opens in a new tab) following the film.
