With the increased integration of A.I. into the tools of education and business, and the rise in the quality of output of generative A.I., the UCLA Library and UCLA's Teaching and Learning Center invite UCLA instructors and instructional support staff to register for a free online 90-minute workshop and discussion on the implications of A.I. in higher education.

This workshop will focus on A.I.’s impact on:

  • Assignment design
  • Student research and output
  • Information literacy skill development

Workshop organizers will discuss and demonstrate A.I. tools, use of A.I. in research assignments, how assignments can be scaffolded to support student learning and minimize students’ temptation to plagiarize and opportunities A.I. presents for incorporating information literacy instruction into courses. Attendees will be encouraged to share their own experiences, syllabi, assignment descriptions and learning objects in group discussions and collaborations.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, attendees will:

  • Understand and discuss established information literacy frameworks and how A.I. challenges them.
  • Develop methods for students to evaluate A.I. output (i.e., validity, efficacy, ethics of the sources).
  • Begin to articulate the differences in A.I. output as compared to human creativity and the lack of transparency in A.I. development.
  • Discuss with colleagues possibilities for incorporating generative A.I. into research assignments and other course work for students.
  • Generate practices and guidelines to help students understand and use A.I. in their work.
  • Explore limitations and campus guidelines for A.I. tools.
