About

From a U.S. president's letters to a director's scripts, from an award-winning author's notes to the journals of Holocaust survivors, UCLA Library collections place the institution among the top ten academic research libraries in North America. More importantly, a worldwide scholarly community depends upon these vital, irreplaceable materials.

The Library enriches every facet of the university, from core academic programs in the UCLA College to the specialized education in UCLA's top-ranked professional schools. As scholars in disciplines across campus reach new levels of accomplishment and acclaim, they find themselves in ever greater need of library materials that support new areas of research and instruction. Whether in the form of historic manuscripts, newly published books or electronic journals and databases, UCLA faculty and students rely upon complete and in-depth library resources. In fact, many choose to come to UCLA largely because of the quality of its Library and collections.

The continuing decline in state support for the Library and the university, coupled with the soaring prices of journals and books, means that the Library's ability to purchase the essential resources demanded by users becomes more difficult every year. The Library has thus turned to alumni, friends, staff and faculty to help secure UCLA's extraordinary collections.

How Donors Can Help

The Collection Endowment Initiative invites donors to consider a gift to the UCLA Library that will provide critically needed funds to acquire, preserve and make accessible library materials in any subject area of interest to the donor. Endowments may be established with a gift of $50,000 or more, which can be pledged over five years. A special bookplate is designed in consultation with the donor for every Collection Endowment, and is then displayed on the Library's website along with a customized description of the endowment.
