About the Competition

The UCLA Library's "Science is Art" competition encourages our students and broader campus community to share the beauty of science through their submissions of original artwork and photographs that highlight the artistic quality of scientific materials, processes, instruments, findings or data. Led by the Science Libraries team, the competition was introduced in 2020 to showcase the beauty of science and the great talent at UCLA. Submissions are open to the UCLA community—students, faculty and staff!

Prizes

Participants will have a chance for their work to be featured in a digital art exhibition on the UCLA Library site. In addition, the top 5 art pieces will be professionally printed and showcased at the UCLA Mathias Botanical Garden Clarkia Festival!

Submission deadline: Friday, April 12, 2024

Judging Criteria

  • Artwork expresses a connection to nature.
  • Artwork displays creativity and originality.
  • Medium of artwork will be considered.
  • Overall impression of artwork will be considered.
