Need a UCLA Library Student Job?

Ranked among the top ten research libraries in the US, the UCLA Library system is a campus-wide network of libraries that employs more than 500 part-time student employees. Our libraries depend heavily on student employees for both public service and technical processing work.

Library student jobs are part-time with typical schedules of 10–19 hours a week. Hours can be scheduled between classes, in the mornings, nights, and weekends in convenient increments. Also, work-study can be applied to any library student job. If you do accept a job with us, please let your supervisor know you qualify for work-study so that your paperwork is processed accordingly.

Eligibility to Work

  • UCLA Library student jobs are available to currently registered UCLA students only.
  • Entering undergraduate and graduate students are eligible for UCLA Library employment effective the beginning of the quarter (Fall or Winter) in which they are accepted to UCLA.
  • UCLA extension students are NOT ELIGIBLE for UCLA Library employment.
  • All employees must have the legal right to work in the United States and upon hire, will be required to provide proof of this.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to create an account to apply for a student job?

Yes. As of December 2018, you will need to create an account to apply for a student job. However, an account is not required to simply view jobs on the Library Student Job Postings. You will only be required to create an account if you choose to submit an application on the Student Employment Portal.

May I apply for multiple jobs?

Yes, you may apply for multiple library student jobs but you must submit a separate application for each job code.

How often are new jobs posted?

Available student jobs are posted on the Library Student Job Postings website on a daily basis. Jobs remain posted online until they have been filled.

How do I see the status of my application?

Once you submit your application, your confirmation page will display the Application Submitted status. To check your application status later, log back in to the Student Employment Portal using the username and password you created when you submitted your application. Once you've successfully logged in, click on "Requests" then "My Requests" in the dropdown. If a decision has not been made, your open applications should appear with a status that will either display (1) Application Submitted or (2) Application Under Review. Please note that any approvals listed on your application while in Application Under Review status does not involve the applicant so no action needs to be taken. For all questions regarding application status, please contact jobs-hr@library.ucla.edu. DO NOT contact the department directly.

If you can't find the application you wish to check, it is most likely because a decision has already been made. If you wish to check the decision, change the left dropdown filter that reads "Open requests" to "Any status" to see all the applications (open and closed) you've submitted. Those not chosen for the job will have a status of "Not Selected" while those selected will display a status of "Proceed to HR" on their application. If selected, you will be contacted via email or phone.

What happens after I submit my application?

If your experience meets the department's criteria, you will be called in for an interview. The length of the hiring process varies depending on the department and the job. Therefore, your patience is greatly appreciated. All questions should be directed to jobs-hr@library.ucla.edu. Please DO NOT contact the department directly.

Due to the high volume of applications we receive, you may not hear back from a specific department. If you do not receive a response within two weeks, you may assume that you have not been selected for an interview. At this time, you may apply to other jobs by resubmitting your application.

A confirmation page will appear after you successfully submit your application online. If you don't get a confirmation after submission, email jobs-hr@library.ucla.edu.

  • We will not process incomplete applications.
  • Meeting the minimum qualifications for a particular job does not guarantee an interview.
