Open Access Week 2021

UCLA Library is pleased to once again hold innovative and exciting programs spotlighting Open Access during our celebration of International Open Access Week! This year's Open Access Week dates are October 25th - 31st.

For 2021, we're bringing back Open Axis: The Video Game. The international sensation uses a choose-your-own-adventure-style narrative. Play as an undergraduate, graduate student, or faculty researcher and explore UCLA Library and the scholarly experience through the different lenses of humanities, social sciences, and STEM. You make the decisions as you explore the world of scholarship-- from research through publication and beyond!

On Wednesday, October 27th, join us over Zoom for A Case for Creating OERs: A Journey from Learners to Creators at 3:00PM. This 30-minute presentation by UCLA Library's Japanese Studies Librarian, Tomoko Bialock, and UCLA’s Dept of Asian Languages and Cultures Dr. Asako Hayashi Takakura will explore the motivations and benefits of OERs.

The session will be immediately followed by Creating for Open: Considerations for Creators and Users of Copyrighted Works. This presentation will provide an overview of US Copyright and Fair Use, as well as discuss licensing options such as Creative Commons. The 90-minute session is presented by UCLA Library's Scholarly Communication Librarian, Jennifer Chan. No legal advice is being offered. Attendees are encouraged to consult the proper authorities for assistance with copyright.
