Biography
Gissel is the Open Science and Collections Librarian for the life and health sciences. She helps build and maintain the collections, as well as serves as the liaison to the Department of Integrative Biology and Physiology. Additionally, she supports researchers in navigating open science processes, including publishing and compliance with NIH mandates.
Prior to this role, she worked as a Selection and Outreach Support Assistant in the International and Area Studies Department, where she supported collection development in Western European Studies and coordinated the department’s various outreach initiatives.
As a first-generation college graduate, Gissel is passionate about doing outreach and demystifying the research process. She is a native Spanish speaker and has a knack for learning languages (Danish, French and Italian).
Gissel holds an M.L.I.S. from UCLA, as well as a B.A. in History from Georgetown University.
