Imagine having to purchase 100 books for a single course–the price tag alone would feel overwhelming. At UCLA, some reading lists include that many titles in just a single quarter! Fortunately, UCLA Library provides access to electronic resources, ensuring students can focus on learning instead of worrying about the cost of class materials.
Students and faculty can connect directly to the Library through Bruin Learn, the campus-wide learning management system, making it easy for instructors to submit requests for Library materials and for students to access these Library resources. The results: students gain free, equitable access to essential readings including e-books, journal articles and streaming media, in one convenient place within each course site. With materials organized and linked directly, students can get to studying immediately, with no extra catalog searching or fees required.
“Affordable course materials make education truly accessible to all students at UCLA,” said Emilie Eshbaugh, access services reserves lead at Powell Library. “As a UCLA alum, I remember the peace of mind that came from knowing my required books were available at the Library. Now, I see that same relief in students every day.”
