Map Reproduction Services and Fees
Policies on this page apply to the Henry J. Bruman Map Collection in the Charles E. Young Research Library. For atlases and maps owned by Library Special Collections, see Special Collections Reproductions. For atlases and maps in other campus libraries, see Document Delivery or self-service Print, Copy, Scan.
Self-Service
Self-service copy machines (up to legal-size paper, no color) and scanners (up to letter size) can be used for maps kept in the open collections on the A-level of the Charles E. Young Research Library.
Library Copies and Scans
Copying and scanning of maps in larger sizes, as well as reproductions of historical maps, use the following procedures.
The UCLA Library charges fees for collection-related services on a cost-recovery basis. Fees must be paid in US currency, either online with a credit card or by check payable to the University of California Regents; California residents must add 8.75% sales tax as noted.
UC users are defined as UC faculty, staff, and students. UC user fees apply to university-directed research only. Services and materials for for-profit research will be charged at the non-UC rate.
Payment in full is required before orders can be picked up. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required for orders estimated to cost $50 or more. Some jobs must be sent to an outside vendor; see below for more details.
A library staff member must review and approve all map reproduction requests in advance. Requestors are responsible for determining the copyright status of all items and obtaining any permissions needed prior to reproduction.
Map Reproduction Requests
- To initiate a map reproduction request, fill out the Duplication Request Form and, if applicable, a Request to Publish form, and email them to the Research Library research help service.
- If your reproduction request is approved, Library staff will prepare an online invoice and send it to you. This process normally takes about a week.
- When you receive your invoice number, you can pay through the UCLA Library's Online Payment system.
-
Once your payment is verified, the scanned maps will be uploaded to UCLA's Box site. You will be emailed the file addresses.
- Files will remain online for one week.
- All maps are scanned at high-resolution (600 dpi) and saved as uncompressed tiff files. Please note that these files can be very large. It may take some time to download them and they may not open in common desktop image viewers. We recommend using a high-end graphics program such as Photoshop.
