About IMCS
Located in UCLA’s Powell Library, the Instructional Media Collections and Services (IMCS) provides access to available course-required physical and digital media, including educational and mainstream films, TV shows and documentaries, specifically for UCLA instructors, teaching assistants and students in classroom settings, and when available, for non-UCLA academic researchers.
IMCS circulates physical media to instructors and teaching assistants for teaching in classrooms and for individual viewing in the Powell Library Instructional Media Lab. IMCS also arranges access to digital versions for use on approved Bruin Learn/Canvas course websites. Most titles in the collection can be streamed, subject to applicable restrictions.

Search and Request Materials for Instruction or Research
Our aim will be to support media reserves to the best of the Library’s ability, in keeping with available funding and resources. When selecting resources for teaching and learning, instructors should review the Library’s extensive subscription databases(opens in a new tab) and existing collections(opens in a new tab). If it is the case that instructors seek titles that the Library doesn't have in its collection, the Library will work with instructors to explore access options, but because of funding and service capacity, UCLA Library cannot guarantee that the titles sought will be acquired or made available to meet the instructors’ requirements.
Search the IMCS collection catalog(opens in a new tab) by title, format, subject matter, director or other terms.
UCLA Faculty and Teaching Assistants
All materials from the IMCS collection are provided free of charge to regularly scheduled UCLA classes. Requests for rentals and purchases of new media for on-campus, in-classroom use are processed upon receipt of a completed and approved Media Request Form.
Requests for classroom screenings of existing media should be submitted one week or more in advance to avoid scheduling conflicts. Additionally, we may be able to arrange advance screenings of either IMCS holdings or off-campus media for instructors to assess the suitability of materials for use in class.
UCLA Students and Staff
Students and staff may view materials in the Powell Library Media Lab, Room 270, by making a request preferably three business days in advance.
UCLA Extension and UCLA Community
UCLA Extension instructors and other organizations and individuals in the campus community may rent materials from the IMCS collection. Extension instructors’ requests must be placed through a departmental representative.
Off-campus
No IMCS materials may be loaned or rented to any off-campus venues.
