The Biomedical Study Commons is accessible from the 8th stack level of the Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library during regular hours. Eligible graduate students in Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing and Public Health, as well as in the life sciences division of the College may access the reading room after hours via BruinCard swipe at CHS 32-001. The Center for Health Sciences (CHS) security conducts nightly BruinCard checks to ensure all users follow this policy.
Access is granted with BruinCard only (including UCLA Law, Business and UCLA Health cards). BruinCard readers are posted throughout the space (including the main reading room and adjoining study rooms), which patrons will be required to swipe for access.
To keep the area accessible, safe and clean, please observe the following rules:
Use group study rooms only in groups, not by yourself. Rooms may be reserved on the library website.
Maintain a quiet study environment.
Food and beverages are allowed in the Study Commons, but please be considerate of Library and custodial staff by clearing away any mess or trash.
Do not leave belongings unattended. Items left in study rooms or the main reading room for extended periods will be removed by staff to the circulation desk on the first floor.
Bruin I.D. Checks may be done at any moment while using the Study Commons
Cooperate with Biomedical Library staff and CHS security at all times. All backpacks, bags and other materials are subject to inspection.
Tampering with locking mechanisms on any doors within the Study Commons or adjoining study rooms is prohibited, and is in violation of UCLA campus policy.
Do not let other individuals into the Biomedical Study Commons with your BruinCard.
For afterhours use: do not attempt to access the rest of the Biomedical Library when it is closed.
Anyone observed violating these rules can have their Graduate Reading Room privileges revoked and may be fined.
f you are eligible to use the Study Commons, but your BruinCard does not authorize access, please fill out an access problem form. These are available at the Biomedical Library service desk.
