Made possible by a gift from Robert Gore Rifkind Foundation

Robert Gore Rifkind, a third-generation Californian whose family was among the earliest residents of Beverly Hills, is a 1950 graduate of UCLA where he was a three-year varsity swimmer. After graduation, Mr. Rifkind continued his education at Harvard Law School, where he earned a degree in 1954. He is one of the pioneers of the boutique law firm model, having established the first single focused case securities law firm in L.A. He retired from his practice 20 years ago to head The Robert Gore Rifkind Foundation and spend time with his son, Max. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Rifkind amassed a comprehensive collection of German Expressionist art that includes more than six thousand prints, drawings, paintings and posters and five thousand written works encompassing journals, books, texts and periodicals. He donated most of his art collection to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 1983 to establish The Robert Gore Rifkind Center for German Expressionist Studies. Inspired by his passion for art, Mr. Rifkind made a generous gift to the Arts Library to fund the collection of books and relevant materials in his name.
