The SEL Research Commons, located in 8251 Boelter Hall, accessible via the northeast elevator or stairs, provides flexible, technology-enabled spaces for UCLA students, faculty, and staff to do collaborative research (valid BruinCard is required). Tables and chairs can be configured to accommodate a variety of scenarios, including lectures and group collaboration. This space can be used for library instruction. To maximize the availability of this facility for students, this space cannot be reserved for general instruction.
SEL has an additional collaborative research space, the SEL Learning Commons, which can also be used for library instruction.
- Fifty-two-inch plasma screen with VGA hookup
- Two dual screen Windows desktops and an iMac equipped with CLICC software
- Three wall mounted monitors for laptop hookup
- Six computer workstations
- Whiteboards on wheels and three whiteboard tables
As of Fall 2017, the SEL Research Commons is home to the STEM Collaborative Learning Center (CLC), a partnership service provided by the UCLA Library, the UCLA CEILS (Center for Education Innovation and Learning in the Sciences) Undergraduate Learning Assistants (LA) Program, and the Undergraduate Writing Center (UWC). The main mission is to provide a central space to foster collaborative learning among STEM majors by providing peer-to-peer learning activities along with open collaborative study.
