More Information

What goals/hopes do you have for this year as our new Music Metadata Specialist?

I am excited to work and collaborate with the Resource Acquisitions & Metadata Services team, and look forward to gaining a broader understanding of music cataloging and the vocabularies that support it. I hope to spend time learning about linked data and how it will be used to improve discoverability of Library music materials.

How has your prior experience prepared you for this role at the UCLA Library?

The last three and a half years I worked as a cataloger at Chapman University, which taught me how to catalog in a professional environment. This was my first job after graduating from library school at the University of Washington. During my time at UW, I cataloged music scores for the university library and gained experience cataloging opera CDs while participating in an internship with the Seattle Opera. My music knowledge and experience stem from my time spent pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees in saxophone performance.

What projects will you be tackling first?

The majority of my time will be dedicated to cataloging music materials for the Music Library, and I will also be training on how to create and edit authority records.

What are you currently watching? And what do you like to do outside of work?

I am probably keeping up with too many TV shows at the moment. My favorites at this time are "Andor," "The Rings of Power" and "House of the Dragon." I am currently looking forward to watching the newest marvel movie "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever." When I am not staring at a screen, I usually am playing tabletop games.

What is your preferred name and what are your pronouns?

My preferred name is Anthony and my pronouns are he/his.

We are delighted to welcome Anthony to UCLA Library! You can contact him at asharp@library.ucla.edu(opens in a new tab).
