The UCLA Film & Television Archive has welcomed two new members to its board of advisors, each bringing industry experience and a commitment to preserving moving images and making them widely accessible.
Max Rifkind-Barron
Max Rifkind-Barron is a Los Angeles producer who received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Wild Nights with Emily (2018), which premiered at SXSW and was acquired by Universal Studios. A former programming consultant for the Sundance Film Festival, he is developing projects with writer-director Tom Kalin and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Hilton Als through his company, Lithograph.
Since 2015, Rifkind-Barron has led the Robert Gore Rifkind Foundation, established by his father, a UCLA alumnus who created an endowment for the Arts Library in 2009. Under Rifkind-Barron’s leadership, thefoundation recently established the Robert Gore Rifkind Foundation Queer Screening Endowment.
“I’m excited to raise the Archive’s profile with a younger generation of filmmakers and cinephiles,” he said. “I hope to expand its impact through initiatives including screenings in new venues and community events that reach people who may not yet know the extraordinary work that goes on here.
Ian Reinhard
Ian Reinhard is an independent film and documentary producer whose credits include Batkid Begins (2015) and Pick of the Litter (2018). Reinhard’s family has deep ties to UCLA and generations of history in the film industry. He has a long history of partnership with UCLA through his central role in the Myra Reinhard Family Foundation, whose transformative support for the Archive dates back decades.
“There is always so much going on at the Archive, and I can’t wait to take a more active role,” he said. “My passion for historical preservation and art makes this work especially meaningful. I also want to continue the foundation’s longstanding focus on essential needs, such as infrastructure and equipment—the less visible investments that make preservation possible.”
