What is Scholarly Communication?
You engage in scholarly communication every time you read an academic journal or a scholarly book, publish a blog post about your research, sign an agreement with a publisher, or participate in peer review.
If you are a UCLA student, researcher, or faculty member who is at any stage of the publication process, the UCLA Library can help in a variety of ways. In addition to traditional services such as assistance with literature searching and training in proper citation, the Library offers:
- data management planning tools and assistance
- consultation and education on the proper reuse of copyrighted material
- finding information on the right publisher for your needs
- explaining open access publishing options
- determining if the UC Open Access policy and/or Federal and California public access policies apply to your publication
- advice and consultation on negotiating with publishers to retain your author rights
