Collections in the Powell Library focus on current, high-use materials that support undergraduates’ assigned course readings, beginning research and writing needs, growth and wellness, and engagement with a diverse campus community. They include reference books, periodicals, and popular titles in areas such as recent fiction, graphic novels, cookbooks, travel guides, career resources, zines, and video games. Collection focus shifts over time in response to community needs or library-wide priorities. Unless course readings or other demands require it, Powell collections strive to complement, rather than duplicate collections at other UCLA Library locations.
If you're a member of a student group that has an existing collection or an idea for a new collection, become a student liaison. Student liaisons act as bridges between organizations and the library, gathering title suggestions from the membership and working with a librarian to add them to the collection. If you're not affiliated with a student group but still want to work closely with us on the collections, apply for an internship. In the past, students have earned course credit for working with us. This option is especially recommended for students pursuing careers in libraries or publishing.
If you are interested in donating materials to the library, please consult the information for prospective donors at: http://www.library.ucla.edu/about/giving-library/gifts-materials.
