What are you goals for this year as our new Junior User Experience Designer?

The next year has a lot of opportunity on deck to implement meaningful design across the UCLA Library digital presence. I hope to build on my experience as a UCLA alumna to collaborate across departments and library organizations so that our community feels connected and represented in their digital experiences. Working with our Software Development and Library Systems unit, I am excited to build our new website design system, which will serve the Library’s web presence into the future. I’m also looking forward to diving deeper into user research for the UCLA Film & Television Archive website redesign.

How has your prior experience prepared you for this role at the UCLA Library?

With prior work as a visual designer & archivist in galleries, libraries and museums, I bring sharp attention to the way image communicates experience in the digital realm. My work as a graduate reference assistant at the Arts Library during the pursuit of my MLIS degree from 2018 to 2020 introduced me to the UCLA Library system, and I am so honored to be back.

What projects will you be tackling first?

I am hitting the ground running to build out the new UCLA Library website, collaborating with our incredible new Lead UX Designer, Axa, and a fabulous team of applications developers. Alongside this project, we are working across the library to improve patron experiences with library systems, like the new UC Library Search that launched in late July.

What are you currently reading/watching/listening to?

I always have fiction on hand, and I just started reading The Dispossessed by Ursula Le Guin as a first foray into sci-fi. I attempted Dune a while back and couldn’t get through it, but I will absolutely be watching the Timothée Chalamet film adaptation later this fall.
