New Endowment for Japanese Collections at the East Asian Library

With a generous gift from alumna June Kim ’65 in memory of her parents, the David and Yachiyo Nakatani Memorial Collection Endowment for Japanese Studies has been established at the Richard C. Rudolph East Asian Library (EAL). This is the first collection endowment at EAL for Japanese studies.

Japanese language and culture were important to David and Yachiyo Nakatani, Californians who instilled the value of education in their five children.

“Though my parents weren’t able
to attend college, they believed strongly in education,” Kim said. “They made many sacrifices to send all of their children
to college.”

The endowment supports the acquisition, processing, and preservation of resources for EAL, as well as reference and instruction services, outreach activities, and Library exhibits and programming related to Japanese Studies.
