On July 27, 2021, UC Library Search will replace Melvyl and the UCLA Library Catalog. The Library has been preparing for this transition for over a year, and now we are here to help you do the same. For those of you who have saved personal searches, lists or bookmarks to records, there are a few steps you need to take to retain this information before Melvyl and the UCLA Library Catalog are retired. Below, please find an FAQ to smooth your transition to UC Library Search.
How will we learn to use UC Library Search?
While UC Library Search is intuitive and user-friendly, librarians will support the UCLA community through this transition with training materials and research consultations, available starting July 27, 2021.
What will happen to my UCLA Library Catalog, My ILL Requests, and Melvyl accounts? Do I need to do anything? Do I need to turn books back in?
No. Your accounts will become UC Library Search accounts. You do not need to take any action, unless you have saved lists, saved searches, or bookmarks to records.
I have personal saved lists in Melvyl and in the UCLA Library Catalog (My Bookbag). What should I do to keep them?
Saved lists/bookbags will not be moved to UC Library Search. Before July 27, please take the following steps to save your lists elsewhere:
Melvyl: Log in to Melvyl by clicking “Sign In” in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. Click on your account name, and select “My Personal Lists” from the drop-down menu. From there you can access your saved lists. You can email your lists to yourself, or you can click on the “Cite” button and export them into citation management software.
UCLA Library Catalog: Log in to your UCLA Library Catalog account. Click on My Bookbag in the top menu bar. Select the items you want to save (using the checkbox on left, or Select All) and click “Email” at the top to send the list to yourself.
What should I do with my saved searches?
Saved searches in Melvyl and the UCLA Library Catalog will not be moved to UC Library Search. Before July 27, please take the following steps to save your searches elsewhere:
Melvyl: Log in to Melvyl by clicking “Sign In.” Click on the “Saved Searches” link in the gray menu bar. Before July 27 you should make a note of your search terms if you wish to reproduce them in UC Library Search.
UCLA Library Catalog: Log in to your UCLA Library Catalog account. Click on “My Saved Searches” in the top menu bar. Before July 27 you should make a note of your search terms if you wish to reproduce them in UC Library Search.
What should I do about links or bookmarks to Melvyl or UCLA Library Catalog records?
Melvyl and UCLA Library Catalog links will not redirect to UC Library Search. If you have links to these records, either in your browser bookmarks, Common Collaboration and Learning Environment (CCLE) or elsewhere, you can log in, save them to a list and email them to yourself. In Melvyl, you can also export them into citation management software.
