The Film & Television Archive Keeps Images Moving

While our film patrons and scholars are unable to visit us in theaters or at the Archive Research and Study Center in Powell Library, the staff at the Film & Television Archive has continued to carry out our public programming and research mission through virtual means. 

Safer at Home Cinema, launched in March, is a bi-weekly list of streaming motion picture recommendations and film notes that draw upon the expertise of FTVA staff, with topics ranging from film’s visual achievements to socially conscious storytelling. Representing all eras of film history, these titles can be found on platforms like Apple TV, Hulu, the Criterion Channel, and Kanopy (free through participating libraries).

This summer, FTVA expanded its remote programming with Virtual Screening Room, a live virtual screening featuring commentary from FTVA curators and conversations with filmmakers. Each program showcases under-seen, timely works from the collection, often highlighting media-makers from the margins of Hollywood. Find out more at
