Athena Jackson Named Head of UCLA Library Special Collections

In October, Athena Jackson joined the UCLA Library as Director of Library Special Collections. Jackson brings to UCLA extensive experience running large and complex special collections libraries. “Athena’s dedication to empowering teams and individuals to engage in contemporary access, authentic inclusion, and transformative learning opportunities for all library users will further the UCLA Library and UCLA campus strategic initiatives,” said Sharon Farb, Associate University Librarian for Special Collections and International Studies. 

Most recently, Jackson was the Dorothy Foehr Huck Chair and head of the Eberly Family Special Collections Library at Penn State. Previously, she served as Associate Director of Special Collections at the University of Michigan and Special Collections Librarian at the University of Miami. Jackson holds a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from the University of North Texas and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Houston.
