Have questions about your research?
We can help!
Leigh Phan, who joined the UCLA Library in 2017 as Sustainable LA Grand Challenges Data Administrator, began serving as Data Science Facilitator with the Library Data Science Center (DSC) in January 2019. Joining the DSC team in 2018, Leigh began to support a broader group of researchers and more diverse research needs throughout UCLA. In addition to her role, Leigh completed pedagogical training and became a certified Carpentries Instructor in 2019 and provides instruction on data science skills and tools.
In line with the mission of the Data Science Center, Leigh supports researchers and the UCLA community through consulting and instruction on a wide range of topics including data analysis, text analysis and natural language processing, web scraping, and data visualization. Leigh is also a strong advocate for data ethics and justice.
In her role, Leigh also played a primary role in making aerial imagery and spatial data from the Los Angeles Region Imagery Acquisition Consortium (LARIAC) available to the UCLA community. Leigh also developed and taught a curriculum on geospatial information systems (GIS) for the Million Dollar Hoods Research Scholars course.
Please feel free to contact Leigh if you have any questions or are interested in collaborations. You can make an appointment for consultation with Leigh here.
A bit more about Leigh you might not know… when she’s not data wrangling, you can find her bicycling, exploring the outdoors, and cooking; she’s also a self-proclaimed map and design geek.
