Internships and Training

Have questions about your research?
We can help!
UCLA Library Preservation & Conservation is committed to providing opportunities for those who want to learn more about AV and paper-based collection care and treatment. We will not offer unpaid internships or training opportunities. Except for colleagues here with us as visiting librarians or UCLA student workers, whenever possible all who work in our department are union represented. We have a long history of mentoring and training pre-program folks who generally spend 6 months working with us as pre-program conservation assistants. While we cannot pay people who are getting academic credit and stipends from non-UCLA institutions at this time, we have had two third-year graduate conservation students in the past 5 years spend a year with us as visiting librarians. We have been awarded two Kress/FAIC Fellowships in the past five years, and by adding significantly to the funds Kress provides, we have made those fellowships more sustainable for Los Angeles—the fellowships are union represented. Long-term mentoring is a commitment for us. Please write to department members you might be interested in working with. We may not be able to offer a position, but we can talk to you about the field, and possible connect you to other resources in AV and paper-based conservation.
