Our National Mammal: The Bison
On 9 May 2016, President Barack Obama signed The National Bison Legacy Act, identifying the bison as the United States’ National Mammal.
A mini-exhibit in the 1st floor lobby/research commons of the UCLA Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library for the remainder of May samples bison images from our rare books collection, starting with John James Audubon’s Quadrupeds of North America (1854-55) and running through Abigail Rorer’s artist’s book, Herewith are the likenesses of four creatures extinct & one that cameth ominously close (2015).
This exhibit is part of an occasional series, In the News, which draws on items from the historical collections to inform current events.
