Mental Health Tattoo Art Exhibit

Stories & Struggles of Mental Health through Photographs of Permanent Body Art
Monday, Feb 29, 2016 - 2:15pm to Tuesday, Mar 15, 2016 - 12:00pm

"This exhibition features tattoos and stories of mental health and mental illness. Each tattoo is accompanied by the story behind it, and together, they depict and describe people’s experiences with mental health and mental illness. They show a wide range of mental health experiences: anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, addiction, and other mental health issues. By holding this exhibition, we wanted to bring mental health tattoos into a public space, demonstrate the intersection of mental health and tattoos, and try to fight the stigma against mental health and tattoos. The stigma against mental health, mental illness, and tattoos is prevalent in American society, which shames and discriminates against people with mental health issues, tattoos, and/or both. We are intentionally exhibiting mental health tattoos with the goal of contributing to the openness of campus atmosphere, and ultimately, we look forward to seeing more people feeling comfortable sharing their tattoos and stories."
