Library Associates Author Reading

Kelly Comras
Tuesday, Apr 12, 2016 - 4:00pm

Part of the magic in the Magic Kingdom came from the imagination of Ruth Shellhorn, the trailblazing landscape architect who worked with Walt Disney on the original design for Disneyland's beloved Main Street and Plaza garden.

Shellhorn helped create the distinctive modernist landscape aesthetic that became known as the "Southern California experience." From college campuses to the private gardens of movie stars, Shellhorn set a standard of creativity, productivity, and respect for the native landscape that has earned her continuing acclaim. In 2005 Shellhorn donated her papers to UCLA Library Special Collections, which were heavily used in creation of this book.

Landscape architect Kelly Comras, author of Ruth Shellhorn, specializes in land use planning and restoration. She will talk about her close friend and her new book, leading an engaging discussion on this remarkable woman's work and legacy.
