Joint UC Carpentries Workshop Series - Introduction to Python

The 6-Day UC-Joint Carpentries workshop series aims to help researchers get their work done in less time and with less pain by teaching them basic research computing skills. This is a hands-on workshop that will cover basic concepts and tools, including foundational R and Python coding, data management skills, and project version control with Git. The workshops series is designed for novices and you do not need to have any previous knowledge of the tools that will be presented at the workshop. This is a free workshop.

Participants will be encouraged to help one another and to apply what they have learned to their own research problems.

This workshop series is for University of California faculty, graduate students, post-docs, researchers, and other staff.

Python is a general purpose programming language that is useful for writing scripts to work effectively and reproducibly with data. This workshop is an introduction to programming in Python for participants with little or no previous programming experience. This workshop teaches Python 3 using the Jupyter Notebook.

This is a 3 part curriculum please register for Days 1-3 (9/06 - 9/08).

The Python sessions are concurrent with the R sessions - please only choose one Day 1-3 session series.*

Note: This workshop is for novices and will focus on teaching the fundamentals of the programming language Python, and will not teach statistical analysis.
