Joint UC Carpentries Workshop Series - Intro to Unix Shell

Friday, Sep 9, 2022 - 9:00am to 12:00pm

The 6-Day UC-Joint Carpentries workshop series aims to help researchers get their work done in less time and with less pain by teaching them basic research computing skills. This is a hands-on workshop that will cover basic concepts and tools, including foundational R and Python coding, data management skills, and project version control with Git. The workshops series is designed for novices and you do not need to have any previous knowledge of the tools that will be presented at the workshop. This is a free workshop.

Participants will be encouraged to help one another and to apply what they have learned to their own research problems.

This workshop series is for University of California faculty, graduate students, post-docs, researchers, and other staff.

This workshop guides you through the basics of file systems and the shell using a command-line application. If you have stored files on a computer and recognize the word “file” and either “directory” or “folder” (two common words for the same thing), you’re ready to learn the basic Unix Shell commands taught in this introductory workshop.
