Happy Fair Use Week 2022!

February 21 - 25
Monday, Feb 21, 2022 - 9:00am to Friday, Feb 25, 2022 - 5:00pm

Fair use is used on a daily basis by students, faculty, librarians, journalists, and all users of copyrighted material, but what is it?

Fair use is an essential limitation and exception in US copyright that allows the use of copyrighted materials without permission from the copyright holder under certain circumstances. Fair use is a flexible doctrine that allows copyright to adapt to new technologies and helps to balance in copyright law, promoting further progress and accommodating freedom of speech and expression.

Fair Use/Fair Dealing Week is an annual celebration of the important doctrines of fair use in the United States and fair dealing in Canada and other jurisdictions that takes place during the last week of February. The 2022 dates for Fair Use/Fair Dealing Week are from February 21-25th. Check out all of the fair use resources available on this Fair Use Week site

This year's celebration at UCLA Library is adapted to our remote working environment. An exciting new resource from the WI+RE (Writing Instruction + Research Education) will be released this Friday, February 25th.
