Data Collection: Web-Scraping

Wednesday, Feb 1, 2017 - 5:00pm to 6:00pm

Many websites provide scholars with data (including text, images, sound files) that can be used for research. But capturing online content efficiently without resorting to copying and pasting can be a challenge. We will introduce, an application that allows users much of the functionality they need for basic web-scraping. Even if you can write your own scripts, this application is worth learning. Students can pick it up quickly and test out strategies. Best of all, it’s free. Taught by Zoe Borovsky, Ph.D. Librarian for Digital Research and Scholarship.
