During the week before Final Exams, the UCLA Library hosts “Stressbuster” activities for students who use the libraries: fruit and coffee breaks; chair massages by professional massage therapists; and cuddle time with therapy dogs or miniature horses.

Three years ago, we learned that the hot thing nationwide is to provide printed images from a library’s collections and a table-load of crayons or color pencils.

So, at the Biomedical Library, we’re again offering-up printed and ready-to-color images from our collections. Following in the footsteps of Bess Bruce Cleaveland’s 1926 “Health Poster Patterns” and Metropolitan Life Insurance Company’s 1935 “ABC” health rhymes and illustrations (2016); a 16th century Urine Wheel (2017); and the 50th anniversary of 9-1-1 as the national emergency telephone number (2018), this year we offer Milton Bradley Company’s Health Posters to Color and Study by Maywill Dudley!

Maywill Dudley illustrated several books of fairy tales for Whitman Publishing (Racine WI) in the 1930s, as well as two activity books: Let's Read and Paint (1934) and The Toy Shop: a Cut-out Book (1935).

Milton Bradley Company (Springfield MA), the longtime publisher of board games and activity books, used a dozen of her illustrations in Health Posters to Color and Study.

The coloring activity materials will be available at the Public Services/Circulation Desk on the first floor of the UCLA Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library from 3 – 7 June 2019. "Color Me!" is one of many stress-busting activities offered by the Library during week 10 and finals; see the schedule at ucla.in/2whKx58.
