During the week before (and now, during) Final Exams, the UCLA Library hosts “Stressbuster” activities for students who use the libraries: healthy snacks; chair massages by professional massage therapists; cuddle time with therapy dogs; meditation; video games; origami; and more (https://www.library.ucla.edu/events/stressbusters).

Four years ago, we learned that a hot thing nationwide is to provide printed images from a library’s collections and a table-load of crayons and/or color pencils.

So, at the science libraries (Biomed, SEL/Boelter, and SEL/Geology), again we’re offering-up printed and ready-to-color images based on our collections (from Library Special Collections). This time, we offer public-domain copies of gear-based “ingenious machines” published in 1588 by Agostino Ramelli.

UCLA biomedical special collections librarian Martha Teach Gnudi translated Ramelli’s volume into English in 1976. We invite you to read it (BIOMED *TJ 144 R1444d 1976 RARE) after it is exhibited this month on the 1st floor of the Biomedical Library!

The coloring activity materials will be available at the UCLA Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library, SEL/Boelter, and SEL/Geology during 10th Week, from 2 - 6 December 2019.
