"No really great song can ever attain full purport till long after the death of its singer—till it has accrued and incorporated the many passions, many joys and sorrows, it has itself arous’d."

-Walt Whitman, from “the Bible as Poetry,” November Boughs

The UCLA Library co-sponsors an exhibit in support of UCLA’s campus-wide celebration of Whitmania (https://whitmania.ucla.edu/), to celebrate Walt Whitman’s 200th birthday this year on May 31, 2019. The exhibit features images and resources from UCLA Library collections that showcase Whitman’s decades-long revision process of his seminal work, Leaves of Grass, as well as the ongoing dialogues readers, artists, and students have been conducting with his works in the 150 years since Leaves of Grass first appeared. Selections are from the Arts Library, Library Special Collections, Powell Graphic Literature collection, and more.

Exhibit curated by Emily Dearborn; supported by Octavio Olvera, Simon Lee, and Sylvia Page. The exhibit is available for viewing on the second floor of the Powell Library Rotunda.
