Professor Richard Hudson Endowment in Music

Professor Emeritus Richard Hudson is a scholar who possesses a deep commitment to UCLA, an institution that has been his academic home for most of his career. After receiving his doctorate in musicology here in 1967, he spent the next twenty-four years as a faculty member, serving in a dual role as professor of musicology and music librarian during the early years of his tenure. In addition to being a scholar of Renaissance and Baroque music, Professor Hudson studied and composed organ music and authored many scholarly books and articles. The library, of course, was central to his life of music and scholarship. Professor Hudson's experiences as a librarian and scholar made him keenly aware of the extent to which philanthropic support provides the foundation for many of the UCLA Library's most important and in-depth collections. Continuing his careful stewardship of music collections as both a librarian and as a scholar, he established an endowment for the Music Library in 2003 to help ensure the growth and development of these materials for future generations of faculty and students.
