Made possible by a gift from The David Bohnett Foundation
The David Bohnett Foundation Endowment for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Collections supports the acquisition of materials in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) studies for the Charles E. Young Research Library Department of Special Collections. The endowment enhances the department’s existing related collections, including the personal papers of Rudi Gernreich, Evelyn Hooker, Morris Kight, Paul Monette, Michael Nava, Susan Sontag, and Terry Wolverton. These holdings are complemented by the Research Library’s extensive circulating collection of printed volumes in LGBT studies. David Bohnett established the Internet-based media and commerce company GeoCities in 1994. He later sold it to Yahoo! and established a foundation to improve society through social activism. The foundation awards grants that address issues related to the LGBT community, handgun control, voting, animals, and the environment. Other UCLA programs funded by the foundation include the Bohnett Animal Law Speaker Series organized by the Animal Law Society, a cybercenter at the LGBT Campus Resource Center, and the Charles R.Williams Project on Sexual Orientation Law and Public Policy in the School of Law.
