The Presentation Room, Charles E. Young Research Library (11348 YRL), UCLA Library
The Richard C. Rudolph East Asian Library presents a film screening of Chinese documentary "Betta Garden Memories" (in Chinese with English subtitles) by Director Zhang Tongdao. The film features the stories behind this historical landmark, which was (at different times): a mysterious garden in Beijing owned by a French doctor; a salon where Western culture met Eastern culture; the birthplace of Anabase, by Noble Prize winner Saint-John Perse; the launching place of Institut Franco-Chinois de Lyon, which educated many Chinese leaders such as Chou Enlai and Deng Xiaoping; and a supply-base for supporting Chinese communist troops in WWII.
