This shift will enable more uniform coverage and service experience for users. \u003C/p>\u003C/li>\u003Cli dir=\"ltr\">\u003Cp dir=\"ltr\">\u003Cstrong>Mission-aligned expertise. \u003C/strong>Subject, language, format and technical expertise \u003Cem>remain essential and will adapt as necessary to support evolving campus needs\u003C/em>. Library employees retain meaningfully defined roles that value individual expertise with a shared understanding of goals, undergirded by accountability to UCLA’s mission.\u003C/p>\u003C/li>\u003Cli dir=\"ltr\">\u003Cp dir=\"ltr\">\u003Cstrong>Data-informed. \u003C/strong>Assessment is built into the structure as a permanent function, as opposed to project-based.\u003C/p>\u003C/li>\u003C/ul>","Guiding Principles",{"id":244,"typeHandle":237,"richText":245,"sectionTitle":246},"10872007","\u003Cp>Scholarship and student needs have shifted. The higher education and research environment has changed dramatically in the last few decades, requiring academic libraries to evolve their service models and organizational structures. \u003Cem>Specifically:\u003C/em>\u003C/p>\n\u003Cul>\u003Cli dir=\"ltr\">\u003Cp>Demand continues to grow for research data support, scholarly communication and open access expertise, research impact services, and collections that support new research and teaching methods.\u003C/p>\u003C/li>\u003Cli dir=\"ltr\">\u003Cp dir=\"ltr\">Research itself is more interdisciplinary. By organizing experts into collaborative, team-based cohorts, the Library can scale research and instruction services to serve all areas of scholarship more evenly.\u003C/p>\u003C/li>\u003Cli dir=\"ltr\">\u003Cp dir=\"ltr\">Research libraries nationally have shifted purchasing from bound materials to electronic formats. At the same time, interlibrary resource sharing has risen. Together, these trends illustrate a durable shift from ownership to access.
