Submission Details

  • No application fee is required.
  • Submissions will be anonymous.
  • Open to composers of all ages, nationalities, career stages and backgrounds.
  • Underrepresented composers are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Co-created works may be submitted; all creators involved must submit individual applications.
  • Submitted work must be an original composition (no arrangements permitted).
  • Composers may submit up to 2 works.
  • Submitted works MUST include saxophone (1 performer) and MAY include piano (1 performer), percussion (1 performer), and/or electronics. Solos, duos, or trios as well as works with open instrumentation will be accepted.
  • Open to works of any length and compositional style.
  • Submission of works to the Contemporary Music Score Collection is encouraged, but optional.

Submission Process

  • Complete the Resonate online entry form for each work submitted.
  • Receive an email with instructions for uploading scores.

If the submission is a collaborative work, each composer will complete an entry form, but only one score and recording will be uploaded.

Review Process


Name and demographic information will not be shared with reviewers; collected information is only for internal use by the UCLA Music Library.

The application deadline is July 31, 2024.

Round 1: Independent review panel will review all scores and excerpted (1-2 min) recordings (if included) anonymously and create a short list of scores. All identification markings from the score and file names MUST be removed.

Round 2: Independent review panel and members of Bent Frequency will review the short list of scores and complete recordings (if included) and select one winner.

One winner will be selected and composers will be notified by September 1.

Inclusion in the Contemporary Music Score Collection

In addition to accepting submissions for Resonate 2024, the UCLA Music Library is offering composers an opportunity to submit works for inclusion in the Contemporary Music Score Collection.

Submission of works to the Contemporary Music Score Collection is encouraged, but optional.
