INDEX/ABSTRACT DATABASES FOR USE IN LOCATING PUBLICATIONS
ISSUED BY  THE U.S. AND OTHER GOVERNMENTS

CONTENTS:  Databases included here are (1) formal indexes used to identify publications issued by government agencies and/or their contractors and (2) full-text databases.  These databases are usually maintained over long periods of time as a record of the publications on a particular subject or of a specific agency.  Search engine searching for web publications on an agency's web page are generally not included here.  While the majority of the databases listed are free, some of them are commercially produced and they are not free.  Those that are not free are indicated by: (UC users only).

INFOMINE:  Not all government index/abstract databases are included on this web page.  Others can be found using Government Information INFOMINE.  Search INFOMINE for "bibliographic databases" and a topic or broad subject including the topic.  Examples:  irrigation "bibliographic databases" or agriculture "bibliographic databases".

    • TOXNET  A cluster of databases on toxicology, hazardous chemicals, and related areas.
    • HazDat (Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry) Effects of releases from Superfund sites or emergency spills.
    • Environmental Management (DOE) Access to full-text technical reports on chemistry, engineering, health sciences, hydrogeology, etc.
