Question/comment: Hello- I am a post-doc at the Center for 17/18th Century Studies. I have no office and desperately need somewhere to work. I would like to know if there might be any cubicle space available in campus libraries. I can't seem to find any info. on this on your web page. Can you tell me who I should talk to?
Response: The Young Research Library has a limited number of carrels that are assigned to UCLA faculty only. Because of the demand, we frequently have to assign two faculty to a carrel. Consequently, we are unable to offer carrel space to anyone other than faculty at this time.
Question/comment: My department is geography, however I hope to be able to access materials electronically on performance studies and dramaturgy at the Young and other libraries on campus. My area of expertise is cultural geography but this discipline is increasingly impacted by theory and practice coming from the theater.
Response: Electronic resources across the disciplines are available via the UCLA Library website. You can search for specific titles, print as well as electronic, in the UCLA Online Catalog or navigate to a particular library, Arts or Music for example, and find digital resources
relevant to those disciplines.
Please let us know if you require a more specific response.
Question/comment: I was wondering if u would be able to help me with a research paper i had to do...?
Response: We are here to help you find the resources you need to research your paper. You might want to start by speaking with a reference librarian at College Library or clicking on the Need Help? Ask a Librarian link on the Library's homepage for other options.
Question/comment: You guys really need to turn down the AC in YRL (as in turn the temp up). It's so cold in here. I've talked to a bunch of people, and they all agreed that it just gets too cold when you sit here for a while. Perhaps this is only a problem from the second floor (where I am currently), but it would be so nice to have it turned up...thanks so much.
Response: Campus facilities staff are working on the building's HVAC system to manage the changes in temperature that staff and patrons have reported. But do inform staff at the YRL circulation desk when this occurs so we can follow up with our Building Coordinator. Thanks.
Question/comment: I am interested in purchasing discarded and overstocked books. Does UCLA have a mechanism for selling these books?
Response: The Library used to sell unwanted duplicate gifts and discards to the general public through its Gifts Section. Unfortunately the costs of running the sales became prohibitive, and public sales were discontinued in June 2003. The Library now makes arrangements to donate unwanted gifts whenever possible to non-profit organizations and foreign libraries.
