Medieval Manuscripts from the Collection of Richard and Mary Rouse

ROUSE MS L 31
BIBLE (LEAF). ITALY, CA. 1200

One leaf from a Bible written in Italy ca. 1200, laid out to receive a gloss. The leaf, which contains Matthew 28.12–28, lacks its gloss and is blank on the verso, suggesting
that it may have been discarded.

The leaf belonged to M.R. James (1862-1936), Provost of King’s College, Cambridge, and cataloger of the manuscripts in the Cambridge college collections. Given by him along with a second leaf from the same manuscript (Maggs Catalogue 1172 no. 36) to A.N.L. Munby (1913-1974), fellow of King’s and historian/bibliographer of the collection of manuscripts amassed by Sir Thomas Phillipps and its dispersal. With a penned note by Munby.
