HOMAGE ROLL. ENGLAND (NORFOLK), 1444–1449

An homage roll for Norfolk from 1444–1449 (two membranes), with mentions of Sir John Fastolf (whose wife died in 1446) and of Agnes Paston (whose husband William Paston I died in 1444); the two families were connected in that Agnes and William’s son John Paston I (d. 1466) became Fastolf’s principal legal advisor, and John married Margaret Mautby, a distant relation of Fastolf. From the library of Sir Thomas Phillipps, no. 17640. Sold at Sotheby’s 28-29 June 1965 lot 202.
