Mines and Mining Resources for Southern California
This publication is a guide to locating resources on mining information particularly with reference to Southern California and Imperial, Inyo, Kern, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego counties. This guide is not exhaustive and the references at the ends of all publications should also be consulted. These publications can be found in many university libraries and libraries which are part of the national government library depository program.
BOOKS and REPORTS can be located by using on-line library catalogs, using subject headings: "Mineral Industries; Mines and Mineral Resources: Mining Claims; Mining Districts; Mining Engineering; Mining Geology; Mining Law; or Mining Machinery. Mines and Mineral Resources can also have geographic additions by county and state. Also specific minerals can be searched by subject, but to prevent overload searches, restrict by state or county.
MINING CLAIM INFORMATION is recorded at the County Recorders Office in the respective county. Telephone numbers are listed in Discovery Location Recordation and Assessment Work for Mining Claims and Sites in California. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) also has microfiche copies of Federal Land Status Maps which are searchable by township and range. Abbreviations used hereafter are:
