Dissertation Databases
ProQuest Dissertations and Theses, formerly ProQuest Digital Dissertations
Index to doctoral dissertations from 1861 to the present, with abstracts since 1980. A number of master's theses are also indexed, with abstracts since 1988. In addition to the full text of dissertations and theses from University of California campuses since 1997, UCLA now has access to all full text dissertations in the database. If the full text is not available, UCLA students, faculty, and staff may request non-UCLA dissertations on interlibrary loan rather than purchase dissertations. The Dissertation Abstracts and Digital Dissertations databases are produced by the Bell & Howell Information and Learning Company (formerly University Microfilms, UMI).
WorldCat Dissertations and Theses
Provides access to over 5,000,000 dissertations and theses available in OCLC member libraries; UCLA Library is an OCLC member library. Many theses are available electronically, at no charge, directly from the publishing institution. UCLA students, faculty, and staff may request non-UCLA dissertations on interlibrary loan.
Center for Research Libraries Foreign Dissertations
Search the CRL Catalog for dissertations already held at the Center. If a foreign dissertation is not at CRL, UCLA's interibrary loan service will request that CRL acquire it for your use. This special issue of Focus on Global Resources describes CRL's extensive collection of foreign dissertations.
Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations
An international organization dedicated to promoting the adoption, creation, use, dissemination, and preservation of electronic analogues to traditional paper-based theses and dissertations with the goal to more effectively share knowledge.
British Library EThOS
EThOS is a UK electronic theses online service, currently in beta, launched by the British Library in January 2009. It aims to offer a 'single point of access' where researchers the world over can access all theses produced by UK Higher Education. The database currently contains 250,000+ records with 25,000 open access theses available for immediate download. Theses not available electronically can be requested by researchers which are then scanned and made freely available through EThOS.
